Family Facts

Soccer is in the Blood

Hannah Davis's family seems to have soccer in the blood. Her father was an All American goalkeeper who was drafted by the NASL's Washington Diplomats, but his career was cut short due to a knee injury. Her uncle Glenn Davis was a professional soccer player for various teams including the Pennsylvania Stoners, Albany Capitals, and Houston Dynamo.

Today her uncle is a soccer journalist and broadcaster having participated in ESPN's coverage of recent World Cups and NBC's coverage of the Beijing 2008 and London 2012 Olympics. Glenn Davis has said that his father, Hannah Davis's paternal grandfather, was a huge soccer fan and he took his son to see the 1974 and 1978 World Cups on closed circuit TV. It was setup like a theater where you paid admission to see the game on a large screen. Apparently that was the only way to see World Cup coverage in the U.S. at that time.

Lydia Grant

Lydia Grant was the 4th great-grandmother of Hannah Davis. She was born in Maine about 1811 and died there in 1864. She was married to William M. Tyler, Hannah's 4th great-grandfather. Lydia Grant's parents are currently unknown. The Grant family surname has very early roots in New England going back to the mid-17th century. If it can be determined that Lydia descended from one of these early Grant families, it could provide a connection to a number of other famous kin.
